Colossians 3:23-25 NIV Working for the Lord

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.”

In the letter to the Christians in the church of Colossae, Paul reminded them to have new way of living because they had new life, he pointed out the ways to build relationship between husband and wife, also between parents and children. As slave or servant,  they did not put the effort to do it well, thinking that there was no hope, no future and no inheritance for slave or servant with lowly status. Instead, they should “work at it with all your heart”. They were serving the real master, Jesus Christ, in Him there was no favoritism. Whether people were watching or not,  they had to do things with all their heart and be responsible on all they did. Even as slaves or servants, the promised inheritance was from God.

For us as Christians, we have new life. We need to examine ourselves to see if our daily living  matches our new life, either at work, at home or in the church. When there are people around, we work diligently just to show people, otherwise, we slack off. Remember, our lives can be good witnesses for Christ, or it can be the stumbling block for people to know God and affecting people not to accept the salvation. We need to be sober and alert. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
