1 Peter 5:8-11 NIV

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

Apostle Peter wrote the letter to the believers who were scattered through out Pontus, Galatia and other places. He encouraged them to live for Christ in all situations, especially during oppression, they needed to stay alert. The leaders and elders were even more careful, they should not boast, only willing to serve. Both young and old, be humble and respectful. “All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (5:5b NIV). Pride destroys harmony and unity. Our enemy the devil prowls around, the devil finds all the opportunities to create conflicts and provoke disputes, destroy the established relationship of Christians. We need to be sober and alert, with the power of God and strong faith to resist the devil.

We are all experience the same temptations and challenges, the devils are still using their tricks, they encourage people to boast, fight for power. The devils distance people from good relationship which leads to division or split. Brothers and sisters in Christ need to be intentionally sober and alert. With God given wisdom and strength to safeguard ourselves not fall into Satan’s scheme. Have victory through the power and protection from God almighty.
