James 1:9-11 NIV  Rich and Poor

“Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.”

Pride in high position and pride in humility are in contrast. James mentioned that Christians might be in humble position, but they are precious in God’s eyes, they would be raised up. In the world, the rich might have high position, they would be made humble as well. Rich or poor might have differences in the life on earth. However, after the time had past, rich or poor would no longer exist. Similar to the flowers, the blossom would not last. Unless the rich people have eternal hope, whatever they have will not last and will fade away.

Only in the society, rich and poor are being classified. In fact, depending on your choice, rich or poor can live a good life. We should not be self-pity because we are poor. Also, we should not boast because we are rich. God so love the world. For those who have Jesus in their life, they have eternal hope. We will not emphasize on earthy material things, we long for the unchanging and ever lasting treasure above. Let us have a joyful heart that we can enjoy what God has in-stored for us.
