Sharing a devotional from Jeremiah 29:7
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
It may seem like a simple verse where Jeremiah is sharing what God has said to the Israelites. What does it look like to seep peace and prosperity of the city they are in? Also why is God asking them to do that in exile? God wanted the Israelites to be a blessing to the Babylonians, this is not easy for the Israelites to do but God is commanding them to seek peace and prosperity of the city.
Although we are not in exile, we are placed in a city where we can see peace and prosperity of this city as well. What happens when we pray for a city all together with other believers, God moves! The last part of this verse says Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will Prosper. When we are in prayer for our city God moves and we keep praying for our city to see a move of God! When we continue to pray and seek God in for our city God answers those prayers and will prosper because of that.
What does that look like for us in our city? Have we been praying for a revival in our city? God wants us to bless those around us so that we can share the good news to those who do not know. May we live this out in our lives, praying for our city and continuing to bless those around us.
