James 2:1-4 NIV  No favoritism

“My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?”

James reminded the believers of Jesus Christ that they should not judge people by their appearance. Do not judge people by what they wear, their appearance, their family background, rich or poor. People should not play favoritism. People should act out of faith, do things with passion, to serve with their heart. Jesus encountered and served people with different background, sick or poor. As followers of Christ, we should serve people with love to all people.

We are unique and different. Servings in different roles but with unity and passion, bear with one another in love, we should not treat people according to their outward expression. There are times we can see people’s needs from their appearance. We can show our caring with love, not to distance them from our church. We should reach out to them, to encourage them.We should not judgmental. We have to connect and understand them more. It is God pleasing that our loving kindness actions are not influenced or determined by the appearance of people.
