Hi Everyone,
Sharing a devotional with you from Galatians 3:26-4:7
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Paul here in Galatians is talking to the people about their identity that has been found in Christ. It is because we are in Christ so we belong to Christ as an heir to God. We were once slaves to this world but because of our faith and belief in Christ we are an Heir to God and can call God our Father “Abba.” How wonderful is it that we are no longer slaves to this world and we now have a new identity that is rooted in truth of who God has called us to be. Jesus came so that we can call God Abba again and to have this relationship with him always by giving us his Spirit. Slaves do not own anything and have no freedom to do much. Our identity was as a slave to the world, however because Jesus came to die for us and redeem the law we now can live and have the identity as a beloved child of God.
Have you experienced this reality that we are Heirs and coheirs with Christ and we have the inheritance that Christ has to be with the Father in eternity when the day comes? Do we live out of that identity as children of God and show the world what a gift that is. We are not slaves to this world but that does not mean that bad things do not happen. We do still live in a fallen world. We can look to Christ and remember that we have been set free and have been given a title of an heir to the Father. What a gift it is to be called an Heir of God! Friends this is who we are when we have Christ in us. Friends you belong to Christ and therefore you are an Heir to the Father and Co-Heir with Christ. This is our identity friends, may we live and love out of this identity.
Blessings,
Esther
