Titus 1:7-9 NIV  Church leaders

“Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.”

Paul directed Titus to appoint elders to lead and managed the churches. Elders were leaders of the church, Paul listed out the requirements and qualifications needed. “He must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine.” Leaders must be self-disciplined, understand and live out the Bible teaching. They should teach and encourage people. They should not fight for power, but being at peace when dealing with people and ministry.

Leaders are needed to lead the church and develop ministries. Pastors, elders and deacons are leaders of the church. They are in obvious visible roles. They must be safe guard themselves, humbly walking with God and serving with humility. To build the unity and peace in the church communities. This bible passage has listed out the elements on what we should do and what we should not do. May we be reminded to be good examples to all people.
