Sharing a devotional with you from 2 Kings 2 – Wrong Choices
In our most desperate moments, who do we seek? In our most desperate times, the first one we seek out is usually the one we believe can help us. Unfortunately, Ahaziah thought of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron instead of the LORD. By this action alone, we can see who Ahaziah truly believes in. That is unfortunate, because Baal-Zebub did nothing for him while the LORD intervened through various means that He was the one and only true God. The king was obviously angry hearing that he was going to die so he sent his captains to Elijah with no good intentions. The lack of repentance in these events marked the king’s demise. He made the wrong choices. If Ahaziah repented there and turned back to God, who knows, maybe God will be merciful towards him and save his life. However, he was stubborn till the end. God’s word will prevail no matter what. Let us not learn from Ahaziah. The LORD gave him chances, but he never took them. May we heed God’s word and trust him so that we will not repeat the same mistakes Ahaziah made.
