I wanted to share a devotional today from Isaiah 43: 1
But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
God is reminding the Israelites of who He is and who they are in Him. This can be said for us today, we are in constant need to be reminded of who God is and who we are in Him. We are formed in the image of God as He is the one that has created us to be in his own image (Gen. 1:27) In this verse alone it gives us a promise that He has already redeemed us and He knows us by name. We have been redeemed because of what Christ did on the cross for us to give us salvation. This makes me think of how often we need to be reminded of who’s we are and how we are to live with that certainty and knowledge that God knows us by name.
I am reminded as I watched The Chosen a multi-season show about the life of Christ, in the first episode Mary Magdalene has an encounter with Jesus. In that scene Mary Magdalene or Lilith as she called herself is not in a good place, leaving a bar as Jesus is behind her. Jesus calls her by name “Mary” as to Lilith and she stops mid step turns around to ask “who are you?” Jesus then reads aloud Isaiah 43:1 Mary is stunned because Jesus calls her back to her real identity of who she is, Jesus then embraces her and holds her like a father with his child.
That is true for us as well that Jesus says You are mine! How wonderful is this reminder that no matter what we have done or where we may have messed up God still says you are mine! Today may you see that you are His and that He has called you by name. May we live in believing the truth that God created us, formed us, redeemed us, called us by name, and said you are mine!
