1 John 1:8-10 NIV
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”

None of us are perfect, we make mistakes, we do wrong things, we sin. If people think that they never make mistakes, they never sin, they are deceiving themselves. It is so easier for us to sin, either verbally, in our mind or in our behavior. People get hurt or ourselves get hurt. Although we may not do the wrong things intentionally, there are times we want to cover up our wrongs. We lie or rationalize our wrong decisions or mischievous actions to make us feel alright or feel good. In fact, when we do these, in our heart, we know that we are wrong. It is our conscience which telling us that we need to do something, and yet, we just do not want other people to know it. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves.” We need to face it to make the correction. Otherwise, we cannot get out of it and to live with joy.

Our effort to correct is limited, but our God is all powerful. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” This is the promise of God. If we confess our sins to God, our sins will be forgiven. Our God is faithful and just. He will honour whatever He said. To live a life with joy and peace, we need to deal with sins. Through the Salvation by Jesus Christ, we received the saving grace. We need to seize the opportunity, do not continue deceiving ourselves. The sooner we deal with the burden of our sins, the sooner we can enjoy the true freedom that God promise to give us.
