Hi everyone,

Sharing a devotional with you from Matthew 11:28-30:

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

We may have all heard these verses many times. One thing that struck me as I read these verses again was the idea of Jesus saying come to me. As Jesus says come to me, He does not say certain people can come to him but He simply says come to me to all people. A yoke or to be yoked in Jewish context was an obligation to something or someone. We can see that people in Bible times were yoked to the Law, or to other worldly things. In this Jesus says to take His yolk in that He is saying that we are to let go of all the worldly obligations but to hold onto Jesus as he is gentle and humble in heart. This does not mean that we will have no burdens or things that make us weary, but it is in Christ that we can give Him those burdens and rest in Him. What an open invitation to us from Jesus that He wants all of us to come to Him, no matter where you may feel like you are. May we be able to hold onto this truth that Jesus has His arms open ready to receive our burdens and He is ready to give us His light yoke. May we be willing to give Him our burdens and in return we may be able to rest in His goodness for us.

Blessings,

Esther
