Hi everyone,

Sharing a devotional with you from Luke 11:14-23 – Redirecting People Back to God

What stood out to me in this passage would be a kingdom divided against itself cannot not stand. Of course here the Pharisees were accusing Jesus of being demonic. However, Jesus rebukes them with a sound argument. This reminds me that we also need to be ready to defend our faith. Not only was Jesus correcting their misunderstanding, but a truthful answer helps redirect people back to the truth and back to God.  Even though they may agree or disagree with us, we are still to speak the truth and plant those seeds. We have to be ready and prepared to give an account to our faith. I have known people who have came to Christ simply because we have answered their questions and doubts. When their view of God has been skewed, we are to help and redirect them back into the truth.

The way Jesus did it here is very wise. Let’s go over what happened and the structure of His argument:

  1. Jesus casted out a demon
  2. Pharisees accused Jesus that He was Beelzebub (demonic)

Jesus responded:

  1. Satan against Satan –> House divided against itself cannot stand –> Satan’s kingdom will fall –>Satan will not stand against himself
  2. If not Satan –> it has to be God
  3. If God was the one who cast out the evil spirits –> God’s Kingdom has come –> If God’s Kingdom has come, (implied in this argument), why do you (Pharisees) not believe? –> Turn to God and believe!

Jesus is very wise in His argument as you can see how He skillfully directs people back to the truth and back to the reality of God. May we learn from Jesus and ask for wisdom from on high so that when opportunities come, we will be ready and prepared to stand up for the truth and help direct others back into the very presence of God!

Blessings,

Kelsey
