Hi everyone,

I’m sharing today from John 4:1-26

We may have read or heard this story many times have you noticed that Jesus needed to go through Samaria? Samaria was the fastest way from Jerusalem to Galilee, however, Jesus did something that was not custom for Jewish men to do. He talked to a woman first of all , secondly the woman is a Samaritan, and He spoke to her knowing that she was an adulteress. Jesus was not living the typical Jewish life and showing others how to live. Jesus was still human and needed water and food, at the well he asks the woman for water. Jesus then goes on t tell her that the water he gives she will not be thirsty again, and the it is living water. I’m picturing her response was most likely confusion when you need something to draw up water. Jesus tells her that the water He gives she will never be thirsty again. for her this might have been a relief as she won’t have to face people again in humiliation, as she has multiple husbands. Jesus knows this and call her out in gentleness, however, she deflects and starts talking about the fathers that have come before and where they worshiped. Jesus then tells her that worshiping in spirit and in truth is what true worshippers do. She has the understanding and knowledge that the Messiah is coming, however, she doesn’t know until that moment that she is speaking to the Messiah when Jesus is telling her that it’s Him.

Living water that fills our spirits and our souls is what Jesus gives, are you thirsty for some of that water? You don’t have to have it all together in order to receive this gift from God. Jesus went to a person who was not liked around her community and tells her of this great gift. Let that be a reminder for us that when we ask for a drink, our good and gracious God loves to give us just that. Are you thirsty for a drink from the well that Jesus gives? Although in the story she has no name, and is an outcast but Jesus sees her and is bringing His gift of salvation to her and allowing her to know the identity of Jesus. If you are a thirsty for a drink from the well, ask the Father to give you that drink!

Blessings,

Esther
