Hi everyone,
Sharing a devotional with you from Jeremiah 8 – Going Too Far
The more I read this chapter, the sadder I got. What makes me sad is the fact that the LORD was patiently waiting for His people to return to Him, but they kept turning away further and further worshipping idols. Seeing this imagery just pains my heart to see God being cheated on by His own people whom He loves so deeply. The LORD was patient and was waiting for His people to return. He warned them over and over again, but they didn’t seem listen or cared. Now, they have taken things too far to the point of no return. Even when God used Jeremiah along with other prophets, His people did not heed His warning. When there is nothing else that can be done, God will need to resort to punishment and judgement for their idolatry.
This is a good reminder for all of us. Even though we are the LORD’s people through what Christ has done, we can still be led astray if we’re not careful. Let us not arouse the jealousy of the LORD by always fixating our eyes on Him and remaining faithful. May we continue to serve and love Him only. Even when we are led astray a little, may we learn to return to the LORD so that we can repent and begin living for Him again. Let us heed the warnings and the nudging of the Holy Spirit so that we will not grieve Him. God’s patience and mercy is out of this world, but that doesn’t mean He doesn’t get hurt. Let us repent and return to the LORD always. It’s never too late because the LORD is waiting for us. If we are a bit distant from God today, let us return to Him before we go too far. That’s when the LORD disciplines us out of love for the very purpose that we will one day return back to Him. May we be reminded of God’s love and mercy today so that we will continue to remain faithful always.
Blessings,
Kelsey
