Hi everyone,

Wanted to share a devotional with you from Jeremiah 6:19-20 – Acceptable Worship

19 Hear, you earth:
    I am bringing disaster on this people,
    the fruit of their schemes,
because they have not listened to my words
    and have rejected my law.
20 What do I care about incense from Sheba
    or sweet calamus from a distant land?
Your burnt offerings are not acceptable;
    your sacrifices do not please me.”

What stood out for me in this passage would be sacrifices not acceptable to the LORD. God in fact rejects them. The people brought all kinds of goods such as incense, calamus and other sacrifices offering to God thinking it would please Him but it didn’t. The LORD rejected their sacrifices. The reason for that is because the people have not been following His commands. The people would not listen to Him. So whatever they wanted to offer to God became detestable in God’s sight. God looks at the heart. If we genuinely love Him and live for Him, whatever we offer, whether great of small, the LORD is pleased. However, if we live in disobedience, even if we offer everything that we have, God will reject it.

This reminds me and helps me reflect whether or not our sacrifices is pleasing to God? If we continue to love Him and follow His commands, then we will be able to please God. That is true and genuine worship. However, if we don’t, the LORD can reject our offerings just like He did with His people. Are we worshipping God how He wants us to worship Him? If there’s acceptable worship, it also means there’s unacceptable worship. May God reveal to us today through His Spirit any areas we can improve on so that we can continue to please God with our very lives and worshipping Him with our entire being!

Blessings,

Kelsey
