Hi everyone,

Sharing a devotional with you from Jeremiah 42:1-22 – Tough Obedience

It’s so interesting in this chapter that the people were asking Jeremiah to seek out the LORD for them. Now that they have suffered, they promised they would will obey whatever the LORD says. Anywhere but Babylon is what they thought. However, when Jeremiah came back with Word from the LORD, the people heard something they didn’t want to hear. Once again, their obedience is being tested when God asks them to do something difficult. Obedience may not always be easy. Now they’re having second thoughts to the promise they made. It’s interesting how sometimes we become so sure of ourselves that we will do everything the LORD asks of us. However, when the commands of God becomes difficult and challenging, or His commands do not line up with what we want, we quickly forget what we have promised to do. May God give us the strength to listen to His word even when it’s difficult. Obedience to God can be tough, but we know at the end of the day, God’s plans are always good for us. Let us not make empty promises to God to only listen to Him when it’s advantageous for us. Let us listen and obey His word even when it gets tough and challenging.

Blessings,

Kelsey
