Sharing a devotional with you from Jeremiah 38 – The Mercies of God
What stood out to me in this chapter is how God continues to give King Zedekiah many chances despite his continuous disobedience. He gave King Zedekiah one final chance to listen to the LORD but as the story goes, he rejected God’s word and faced destruction, not only for him and his family but for the entire nation. This is so unfortunate that even near the end, Zedekiah refused to listen to the LORD even though the LORD wanted to save him. What King Zedekiah did to the LORD deserves death, but God chose to demonstrate and show mercy by giving him a way out. Our God is always a redemptive God. May we learn from this that we will listen to God and heed His word. May we recognise God’s grace and mercies in His commands even if they may be difficult to do. He ultimately loves us and continues to reach out to us giving us many chances and opportunities. May we hold on to those and heed God’s loving warnings so that we can make the right decisions in life. May we also draw closer to God so that we can be aware and continue to recount the countless mercies He gives us daily. To Him be the glory and honour forever!
