Wanted to share a devotional with you on Jeremiah 34 – Are we Regressing?
It’s so unfortunate how King Zedekiah started off doing a good thing by making a covenant to set the slaves free. However after some time, the king and his officials decided to change their minds and reverted back. As you read through the chapter, God was not pleased with that. Due to their regression, God is going to judge them. This reminds us that whenever we walk according to God’s word, we need to persevere through it. Repentance is not to be taken lightly. Whenever we journey forward, we need to do our best so that we don’t regress back. We don’t want to take a step forward and take 2 steps back. We need to stay firm on the good we have decided to do especially when it is pleasing to the LORD. We can learn from King Zedekiah here and not walk in his footsteps by regressing back and being unfaithful. Due to this, God will judge him for it. May we not follow his footsteps but continue to journey forward for the LORD. May we take our repentance seriously, guarding ourselves so that we don’t regress back to where we were before we repented.
Let’s take a moment to reflect whether or not we are regressing. If we are, may the LORD be gracious to us and helps us stay on the right track. May the LORD give us strength to persevere through all things as we continue to follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
