Hi everyone,

Sharing a devotional with you from Proverbs 30:7-9 – Just Enough

“Two things I ask of you, Lord;
do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.

Verses 7-9 made me reflect on how wonderful it is to just have enough. If we have too much, we become conceited and think too highly of ourselves forgetting that it was God who has blessed us. When we feel like we don’t need God anymore, we disregard Him. Jesus warned us many times that riches can hinder us from entering the Kingdom of God. Pride and having a sense of self sufficiency can alienate us from God. Having too much can become a stumbling block to our relationship with God if we’re not careful.

On the flip side, having too little can cause us to sin. We’ll become desperate and begin looking for ways to survive, dishonoring God’s name when we make a wrong decision. So having just enough is such a blessing. There is so much wisdom in that. Although many are not satisfied with just enough but wants more, we need to be reminded that having just enough for everyday is the greatest blessing because it strengthens our relationship with God.

Have we ever prayed this way before asking God to give us neither poverty nor riches? I think we can all relate with the poverty part. Non of us will ask God to make us poor. Our prayers are usually focused on asking God to bless us. We want a good life and we want more. We always want God to bless us with riches and more. However, God knows that sometimes having more may not be a blessing if it causes us to stumble. How much does God need to bless us before it’s enough? We can become greedy if our heart is not right. The true blessing God can give us is to ensure that our earthly situation can draw us closer to Him and usually that’s when we have just enough. Not too rich and not too poor.

May we be reminded of that today, to be thankful for what we have and keep our eyes focused on our relationship with God. God will take care of us because He loves us. Having just enough is a blessing in disguise because it teaches us to continue to rely on God. May the Lord richly bless us today with just enough because nothing in this world can compare with our relationship with Jesus.

Blessings,

Kelsey
