Judges 4:8-9 NIV
“Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.”
Accepting an assignment, being commissioned is not an easy task. Confidence and the willingness to take the bull by the horn are the keys.
For twenty years, Israelites were oppressed by the king of Canaan. Israelites cried to the Lord for help (Judges 4:3). Judge Deborah told Barak, the commander of the Israel’s army, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor. I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.’ ”” (Judges 4:6-7 NIV) Although the Lord had already told Barack that the battle was a sure win, Barak still requested Deborah to go with him. Deborah could go with Barak, but it was not necessary. Deborah told Barak, “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours.” Israelites won the battle, the General of the king of Canaan, Sisera, was killed by a lady named Jael. The honor of winning the battle did not go to Barak, but the credit was given to Jael instead.
When God told us to go and do things, He is going with us, to be with us and give us strength to do it. Do not be afraid, trust God and He will help us. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NIV) Whenever we are willing to work and walk with God, we will experience the power and the joy of victory. Just walk humbly with our God, you will find new experience.
